As written on the back of another piece of marquetry we have, “Marquetry is an art form that had its inception in ancient Egyptian wood mosaics, was revised by ecclesiastic orders during the Renaissance, and reached its highest levels of perfection in the 18th Century as Intarsia. The materials forming this work are natural woods selected from some 200 species of trees from all over the world, that have been sliced into thin veneers, cut by knife and fret saw into jig saw puzzle-like pieces and glued into the artistic impression you see here.”
