Large oak lectern with carved eagle on front and inscription "IN MEMORIAM - HLO - OBIT - JUNE 17th AD 1876".

The lecterns in the shape of an eagle on whose outstretched wings a bible rests are most common in Anglican churches and cathedrals. The eagle, which was long used as a symbol for John the apostle, had also been integrated into the culture of American churches, as it is also a patriotic symbol of the country. A famous eagle lectern from the Daughters of the American Revolution organization has been used for presidential inaugural events. The carved eagle rests above the inscription “In Memoriam, H.L.O. OBIT. June 17th, A.D. 1876, which means this lectern was probably commissioned as a memorial piece. Place this lectern near other dark wood or dark colored furnishings, and make sure this intricately carved eagle is presented as a focal point.
