Kohler Co. was founded in 1873 by John Michael Kohler in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The company originally manufactured plows and other farm implements. In 1883, a cast iron horse trough was advertised as a bathtub, and their first plumbing product was sold. From then on, Kohler Co. has successfully sold thousands of plumbing products across the United States.
