This display is from June 2026
Storied stone faces, intricate terra cotta, and a faux marble mantel bring weight to a colorful, contrasting wall of sconces and more divided by the silhouette of an art glass shade. All aglow in the light of a chandelier straight out of a fairy tale.

Oscar B Bach was one of the most celebrated metalwork artists of the early 20th century. Born in Germany in 1884, he began his career in Berlin, during which time he made an ornate, jewel encrusted Bible cover for Pope Leo XIII and won the Grand Prix at the World’s Exposition in Turin for a bed designed for Kaiser Wilhelm II. Not a bad way to start a career! After moving to New York in 1911, his work became well-known amongst the elite, with commissions from the likes of Andrew Carnegie and John Sargent Pillsbury. Bach’s designs ranged from Arts & Crafts to Gothic to Tudor Revival, and often included elements of mythology, Italianate and Germanic grotesque, and scrolling grapevines. Unfortunately, due to the unauthorized production of original Bach designs by a former business partner, there are some pieces floating around the market that were not actually produced by Oscar Bach himself. The best way to make sure it’s an original is to look for the inscription OSCAR B BACH/NEW YORK/STUDIOS INC and an image of a female profile flanked by a double-stuck B on both sides (if it was produced between 1913-1923), a metal tag with the artist’s name in script (if it was produced in the 1920s or early 30s), or a stamp with OSCAR B BACH and an applied tag that says BACH PRODUCTS (if it was produced in the 1930s).
