This massive cast iron winged dragon sconce was once used to illuminate the St. Louis World's Fair of 1904. An oversized and luminous cylindrical lamp rests above the dragon’s head. The dragon’s body features intricately detailed wings and a long scaly neck. At six feet tall, this sconce is exceptionally eye-catching and its historical background makes it an even more impressive artifact! Parts for a second fixture are available.

The St. Louis World’s Fair of 1904 celebrated the centennial of President Thomas Jefferson’s real estate deal with Napoleon Bonaparte of France, in which 600 million acres of the Louisiana Territories were purchased. President Theodore Roosevelt had the honor of turning on the electricity for the fair when it opened. Built upon a 1,200 acre site, it included 62 exhibiting countries and 43 of the 45 states. It ran for seven months and attracted over 12 million visitors!

We find that early antique lighting was designed as objects of art and we treat each fixture with careful attention to preserve original beauty. Our fixtures are cleaned, rewired & are ready to hang, following UL standards. We can work with you on code requirements.
