DONALDSON UPDATE

Undertaking the renovation of this classic home in the Kenwood neighborhood of Minneapolis is a brave undertaking. Behind layers of paint and veined mirrors the new owners of this 1908 treasure were able to see beyond the dated décor and brought this old home new life.

The home, originally designed for Mary Donaldson and built by architect William Kenyon still had many unique original features. Treasures such as Tiffany fireplace tiles where found behind a faux tile surround, Bradstreet stained glass windows in an ivy pattern where still intact, and a flame birch paneled surrounded the dining room and entry.

What was missing where most of the original light fixtures which the new owners carefully selected.  Working with the Tudor styling’s of the home, iron chandeliers were used in the front entry and sunroom, easily blending into the environment.  A pair of antique iron sconces is used at the homes entry, warm slag glass provides a welcoming light to those whom enter.
