This enormous mixed metal chandelier was removed from the Northrop Auditorium on the University of Minnesota's Minneapolis campus. The auditorium underwent a three year renovation beginning in 2011, and due to a major reconfiguration of the interior, many of the original light fixtures were unable to reused in the new space. The fixtures, including the main attraction, this 29 foot tall x 12 foot wide chandelier, were professionally crated and stored until recently, when we stepped in. Currently the chandelier is distributed amongst six large crates, three of which we have photographed, and whose contents you can see in more detail in the "images" section.

The chandelier is original to the auditorium's completion in 1929, and it dazzled visitors for 80 years. It's seen the likes of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., the Peoples Republic of China Ballet troupe, and Herbie Hancock, amongst hundreds of other influential figures in the world of music, dance, arts, and politics. Made of the finest materials available at the time and painted in beautiful blues, yellows, golds, and reds, the chandelier is a sight to behold and a true work of art. Nine globes illuminate from the bottom, while dozens of sockets run around the perimeter, and finally, multiple bulbs illuminate the top of the fixture, bouncing light off the ceiling and into the surrounding area below.

This chandelier deserves to dazzle audiences once again!

Please contact us if you would like to see additional photos of the chandelier during its removal process. They are helpful in understanding how the chandelier is assembled. We also have detailed assembly instructions that we would be happy to send to any interested parties.

We find that early antique lighting was designed as objects of art and we treat each fixture with careful attention to preserve original beauty. Our fixtures are cleaned, rewired, and restored & are ready to hang, following UL standards. We can work with you on code requirements.
