Steuben Glass Works was founded in 1903 by Frederick Carder, who has honed his craft in England. The firm did well in its early years, having perfected the Gold Aurene glass that Carter created & produced when he worked for L.C. Tiffany. World War I wartime restrictions made it difficult to get the materials they needed to produce their collectable glass shades. In 1918 Steuben Glass Works became the Steuben Division of Corning Glass Works producing Art Glass until 1943.
