Large wooden spinning wheel.
In their most basic form, spinning wheels are just large tools designed to twist fiber into thread. If you look at the basic mechanics of wheels, they are all based on pulleys. Colonists brought the design of a large spindle wheel to North America when they came from Europe. The great wheel was one of the earlier types of spinning wheel. The fiber is held in the left hand and the wheel slowly turned with the right. The great wheel is usually over 5 feet in height. This wheel references the early colonial style in which the pieces of the wheel were simpler, rather than with carved detailing. Place this in a sewing or crafting room, a room with other wood décor, or repurpose this wheel into a table top frame or wall hanger.
