With it’s sunburst corner design and vanity perfect mirror, the beauty of this buffet wakes you up and says “Good morning!” This piece was salvaged from a Queen Anne style home designed by Charles A. Wallingford and can be put in the category of Eastlake Style furniture exemplary of the late Victorian period. The two-dimensional carving of the roses along with the stylized classical elements define it as such. The bracket acanthus tracery and swirled columns that blossom into Corinthian capitals were then contemporary takes on Classical architectural elements. Classical motifs can also be found in the egg and dart trim piece that runs in parallel with the half arch of the 12 beveled mirrors within the ceiling of its architecture. The upper portion of the piece reflects its surroundings and has symmetrical shelves for display. At counter height two curved cabinets feature the same stipple carved oak leaf and acorn motif as found on the buffets grand framing. The same style repeats below in the lower cabinets, there we find the added jewel pieces of its original hardware. This style is similar to the Kelp style by Yale and Towne hardware but the origin of these exact cabinet pulls have yet to be confirmed. This mystery, along with the mystery of this grand scale buffet and how the house was built out to specifically accommodate it, add to the the tales this piece of history can tell.
