When Boch began his family business in 1784 we doubt he would be able to envision the longevity of his business and the scale of operations of a global company that continues to operate today as Villeroy & Boch. Because they are based in Germany we are dating these tiles Pre-World War One. In 1852 the company looked to ancient Roman mosaics to create the patterns displayed in the tilework you see here. The pattern on the tile is created using different types of clay, not a glaze, which makes them encaustic tiles- to be specific.
These tiles were salvaged from a Condo in the Loring Park neighborhood that was built around 1910 and demolished around 1980.
