This absolutely stunning E.F. Caldwell chandelier is made of lovely silver plated brass and features intricate detailing throughout. Above the body of the fixture is a simple canopy assembly, with a floral detailed slip ring that holds the elegant canopy. Inside the canopy you will find Caldwell’s signature diamond shape maker’s mark. The Sheffield style body of the light is surrounded by curled arms that carry the sockets. Each arm carries a delicately twisted wire that suspends the socket and geometric bobeche. The center socket and bobeche hangs from cast tubing that resembles a piece of rope.

Edward F. Caldwell & Co. was a premier lighting designer and manufacturer from the late 19th century to the mid 20th century. The firm was well known for high quality lighting fixtures in bronze, iron, silver, brass, and copper. They also excelled at creating historically-inspired fixtures that were adapted for electric technology. Pieces were photographed after they were produced, and the Smithsonian Institution is now home to the E.F. Caldwell & Co. collection, with over 50,000 images, including 37,000 photographs and 13,000 original design drawings. Many Caldwell pieces can still be found in a number of esteemed locales, including Rockefeller Center, the Andrew Carnegie residence, and the White House.

A group of two Edward F. Caldwell (1851-1914). Baroque-style chandeliers. Circa 1905. Silverplate on brass body with thirteen lights. Marked on canopy. Marked "AMP 250 Volts" on collar. Wear to silver plate consistent with age and use.
